Eleven and a half thousand witch hats. WitchCatcher players have now spotted more than 11,500 around Salem this year, and a big part of the jump came this morning on Derby Wharf.

Up goes the photographer, in the bucket of a Salem fire truck, over the hats.
Witch Hats on the Wharf
At 11 o'clock today, a sea of witch hats gathered on Derby Wharf for Witch Hats on the Wharf, the Salem 400+ celebration hosted by Destination Salem, Salem Maritime National Historical Park, and the City of Salem: one drone photo, and a world record attempt.

Waiting for more hats to assemble, in front of the Custom House.
Our players were there counting. They spotted 2,471 witch hats today, our biggest day yet, well past the 1,804 of October 11. The count stood at 9,322 this morning; it passed 10,000 and then 11,000 before the afternoon was out.
Thank you to everyone who came down to the wharf in a pointy hat, and to everyone who counted them.
Count them as you walk
The hats don't go home after the photo. All through October they are out on Essex Street, around the Common, by the Witch House, and everywhere in between, and every one you spot is a tap.
WitchCatcher is free on the App Store and Google Play. Spot a witch hat, tap to count it, and see how you stack up today, this week, this month, and all year. Got an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch? You can count from your wrist without taking your phone out.
Next stop: 12,000.
