Salem in October is the reason WitchCatcher exists, but witch hats turn up everywhere. So you'll soon be able to tell WitchCatcher where you're counting, and your hats will go on that location's leaderboards.
Coming soon: locations are in the next version of WitchCatcher for iPhone and Android. It arrives as an update once the App Store and Google Play have reviewed and approved it.
The locations
Salem, Massachusetts is the default. The others are regions of the US:
| Location | Covers |
|---|---|
| Salem, Massachusetts | The Witch City itself. |
| Northeast | New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. |
| Southeast | Virginia and the Carolinas down to Florida, west to Louisiana. |
| Central | The Midwest, the Plains, Texas. |
| Northwest | Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska. |
| Southwest | California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Hawaii. |
Each location has its own daily, weekly, monthly and yearly leaderboards. A hat counts on one location's boards: the one you've picked.
Choosing yours
The first time you open the new version, WitchCatcher asks whether you're in Salem. Say no and you can pick your region. You can change it any time in Settings, under Location.
You tell WitchCatcher where you are. It never asks for your phone's location, and doesn't use GPS.
What stays the same
The Salem guide to shops and events, check-ins and visit badges are still all about Salem, whichever location you pick. Your best day counts across every location. If you've been counting in Salem all season, your standings there haven't changed.
